What families should know

NC Medicaid’s guidance separates immigration-related changes effective October 1, 2026 from work and community-engagement rules scheduled for January 1, 2027 for some adults ages 19–64. Children under 19 are not subject to the adult work requirement. Eligibility depends on individual circumstances; local DSS can explain how the rules apply to your family.

About the shared pediatric flyer: its instruction to act “before October 1, 2026” is now past. Use current state guidance and the deadlines in your own DSS notices. An adult’s coverage change does not, by itself, determine a child’s eligibility.

Your coverage checklist

  • Make sure DSS has your current address and phone number.
  • Open every DSS notice promptly and respond by its deadline.
  • Ask about an enhanced ePASS account for uploading requested documents.
  • If coverage may end or you disagree with a decision, contact DSS promptly about options and appeal instructions.
  • Tell your healthcare office if your coverage changes and ask about care and payment options.
